Why Use Non-Skid Deck Cleaner

The combination of water and a smooth surface can be a nightmare to walk on, and nobody wants to leave a boat ride with bruises or worst, broken bones. When it comes to keeping a boat deck safe for walking on while it’s wet, non-skid deck cleaners come in handy. 

What is Non-Skid Deck Cleaner?

It’s pretty much what it sounds like. Non-skid deck cleaners differ from traditional deck cleaners in that they’re specifically made for textured … well, non-skid decks, which are harder to clean. 

These deck types are porous and have elevated surfaces, making it easier for them to trap dirt. Non-skid deck cleaners are specifically made to go deeper than traditional cleaners to penetrate dirt and grime. While scrubbing is required with non-skid deck cleaners, they’re formulated to break up trapped dirt so that it’s easier to wash off. Using any cleaner not made for non-skid decks can damage or stain the deck’s surface, or simply not work well enough to do the job. Non-skid deck cleaners are usually biodegradable, making them safer on marine life when rinsing them off if the boat being cleaned is in the water. 

Using a Non-Skid Deck Cleaner

The procedure for applying non-skid deck cleaner varies depending on the product, but it typically involves a simple spray-on and scrub-off process. Use a sponge and/or scrubbing brush to apply the cleaner onto the deck, then rinse it off when it’s ready. Always follow the directions on the bottle, and check the label to see if you have to dilute the cleaner with water first.
